Humanitarian Activities
The FXB Flight Vehicle Institute is currently supporting two projects whose theme is the use of unmanned aircraft for humanitarian purposes.
OUR HUMANITARIAN ACTIVITIES
MEDICAL UNMANNED AIR VEHICLE PROJECT TEAM
This is a project to develop a VTOL UAV capable of transporting 10kg of medical supplies over a distance of 100km. The planned use is in rural Ghana, delivering medicine to decrease the prevalence of yaws, a neglected bacterial tropical disease.
MICHIGAN SUSTAINABILITY APPLICATIONS FOR AEROSPACE VEHICLE ENGINEERING (M-SAAVE)
In this project, a student team will design, build, validate, and fly a UAV whose specifications are worked out jointly with Air Serv International, one of the world’s leading aviation service providers for humanitarian missions.
HOW the FXB FellowS Program has helped me
"The FXB Fellowship will always have a special place in my heart. The funds from this fellowship gave me the freedom to pursue any research topics of interest, opened the door for countless research collaborations and mentoring opportunities, and made travels to domestic and international conferences possible. It was a true luxury that a graduate student could ever wish for. This fellowship also acted as a testament to my merit as an academic, helping me to establish myself as a young researcher and a faculty member. It was truly an honor for me to represent female scientists/engineers in the field of aerospace engineering and scientific computing."
